Computer Aided Design

Techanics offers both 3D and 2D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) services that consist of modelling, assembly generation and working drawings to suit the client's needs. The end-use of our CAD services varies substantially, from creating a model that may be used in 3D-printing, right through to detailed working drawings that can be handed on to a fabricator, the choice is yours. Our clients can rest easy with the knowledge that we can provide direct file import and export between a wide variety of conventional CAD software packages including Fusion360, Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works as well as Solid Edge. Our staff have experience in producing high-quality drawings that adhere to the current AS1100 standards.

3D Scanning

Techanics can provide accurate and reliable 3D-scan data at a cost well below the market rate. Our systems can retrieve fine textures and accurate colours whilst maintaining a high degree of mesh accuracy using the latest technology available to us, compliant with VDI/VDE 2634 standards. Techanics provide on-site scanning as well as in-house turntable scanning. Conventionally, 3D scanning has been used as a tried and tested quality assurance (QA) tool i.e. to measure the end-product against a digital model, our operators are capable of overlaying 3D scan data to existing models, providing a deviation heat-map of the component under inspection. Our skilled operators are mobile within the Canterbury region, however, we are more than happy to deal with freighted goods from anywhere in the world. At Techanics, we know that this technology has long since been out of reach for small businesses, let alone the general public but now, finally, the time has come where artists, engineers, fabricators and enthusiasts can capture their reality in a digital format.

Reverse Engineering

With the use of scanning technology and conventional engineering measuring equipment, Techanics offer a complete reverse engineering design package. Depending on your needs, this may entail converting 3D scan data into a solid model i.e. to re-produce a damaged machine component, it may also entail conventional measurements of a component to create a solid model, as often this is the case for sheet metal re-designs. Naturally, we find there is a good reason parts need to be re-created, often it simply wasn’t done right the first time, Techanics offer you, the client the opportunity to work with our experienced team to drive a solution that can remedy these flaws or simply to add some of your own artistic-flare to almost anything you can think of.

$200.00/hr incl. GST

3D-Scanning

This includes fixed and handheld scanning processes. The end result is raw, combined scan data that can be further developed upon or used as-is depending on your application.

$100.00/hr incl. GST

Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

This covers general 2D and 3D modelling and drafting services as well as model rendering. The outcome may be a working drawing, a dxf. for profile cutting or a part for CNC machining.

$80.00/hr incl. GST

Scan Post Processing

This includes aligning scanned data to a useful coordinate system as well as patching and repairing the raw data. The result is generally a watertight mesh body that can be used in manufacturing processes such as 3D-printing.
